Veteran voice actor Garry Chalk, best known to generations of fans as the animated voice of Optimus Prime, has announced that he is officially cancer-free after a year-long battle with Stage 4 Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Chalk shared the news publicly on February 24, 2026, confirming he is now in full remission following an intensive course of treatment. The announcement was met with an outpouring of support from fans across the world, many of whom grew up hearing his voice in some of the most iconic animated series of the last three decades.

Over his career, Chalk has voiced more than 350 characters, including Optimus Primal in Beast Wars and Optimus Prime in multiple entries of the Transformers franchise, including Armada, Energon, and Cybertron. In December 2024, Chalk revealed he had been diagnosed with advanced Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
