What was meant to be a magical Christmas-light proposal in Northern Michigan quickly turned into a nightmare for Trevor Van Camp and his girlfriend Danielle Jenkins. Under the glowing holiday tunnel of the SkyBridge Michigan, Trevor knelt down to propose—only for the engagement ring to slip from his fingers and fall 118 feet into the snow-covered mountain below.
A Dream Proposal Turns Into Panic
Trevor’s hands shook with nerves as he opened the ring box. In a split second, the ring slipped through the gap between the bridge’s panels and disappeared into the deep winter snow. What should have been the happiest moment of their lives suddenly became a frantic search mission.
When the couple alerted the resort, staff immediately granted permission to search beneath the bridge. Armed with metal detectors, Trevor and Danielle spent two and a half hours scanning the snow in the freezing dark—but found nothing.
A Night Shift Hero Steps In
Just as hope was fading, Pat Harper, the resort’s night-shift snowmaking supervisor, arrived to help. Using his own metal detector, Pat joined the search without hesitation.
At around 10 p.m., moments before the couple planned to give up, Pat’s detector suddenly beeped. He brushed aside snow and dirt—and there it was: the missing engagement ring, miraculously intact.
A Proposal They Will Never Forget
Danielle called Pat “the hero of the night,” saying,
“He saved the day, he really did. Now we have a story to tell of our engagement.”
With the ring safely back in their hands, Trevor finally placed it on Danielle’s finger—turning a near-disaster into a memory they’ll cherish forever.
